I looked up the top 500 African companies owned by Africans, and most of the companies are in South Africa and North African nations. These are nations highly populated by non-Blacks. But, why is there no money being made in-between where Black-Africans are?
Is it because there is too much "aid" being given?
I have this theory, and I'm sure I'm not alone, that all of this aid given to Africa is not helping, but making things worse. I think that if more agencies followed PC's model and gave more teaching than money, I think Africa would be a lot better off.
These are just my budding thoughts.
Currently a PCV in Cameroon who just came back from backpacking Mali! I completely agree that development occurs through capacity building, which is much more sustainable than "hand-outs."
ReplyDeleteAnd being that your blog is entitled "Girl Who Stares at Goats", you may appreciate the goats we found in Djenne: http://krystina-nguyen.blogspot.com/2011/08/djenne-mali.html
Keep up the good work!
